Quick answer: Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Signature (on iOS 17 and earlier: Settings → Mail → Signature), delete “Sent from my iPhone”, and type or paste your new signature. It saves automatically.
How to change your email signature on iPhone Mail
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Apps, then Mail. (On iOS 17 or earlier, tap Mail directly.)
- Scroll to Composing and tap Signature.
- Choose All Accounts for one signature everywhere, or Per Account for a different one on each email address.
- Delete “Sent from my iPhone” and type or paste your signature. There is no save button; it saves as you type.
The same steps work on iPad, where the default text is “Sent from my iPad”.
How to keep bold text, colors and links
Select text in the signature box and tap BIU in the menu to make it bold, italic or underlined. To use a designed signature, open it on your iPhone (for example, email it to yourself), copy it, and paste it into the Signature field.
Lost the formatting after pasting? Shake your iPhone right away and tap Undo. iOS often strips styles in a second step, and undoing that step brings your colors and layout back.
Images in iPhone signatures are hit and miss: some recipients see them as attachments. A signature with hosted images, like the ones SignTry generates, avoids this.
How to change your signature in Outlook and Gmail on iPhone
If you use the Outlook or Gmail app instead of Apple Mail, the signature lives inside that app:
| App | Where to find the signature |
|---|---|
| Outlook for iPhone | Tap your profile picture → Settings gear → Signature |
| Gmail for iPhone | Tap the menu → Settings → your account → Signature settings → turn on Mobile signature |
| Yahoo Mail for iPhone | Tap your profile icon → Settings → Signature. See our Yahoo Mail guide |
How to add a signature in Apple Mail on Mac
- Open Mail and choose Mail → Settings (called Preferences on older macOS).
- Click Signatures.
- Select an account in the left column and click +.
- Name the signature and type or paste it on the right.
- Uncheck Always match my default message font to keep your own fonts and colors.
- Use the Choose Signature menu to make it the default for that account.
How to add an HTML signature to Apple Mail
Pasting a designed signature into the Signatures window works for most people. If yours loses its layout, you can install the HTML directly:
- Create a placeholder signature in Mail → Settings → Signatures and quit Mail.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and open
~/Library/Mail/, then the newestVfolder (for exampleV10), thenMailData/Signatures. - Open the newest
.mailsignaturefile in TextEdit, keep the header lines at the top, and replace everything below them with your signature HTML. - Save, then select the file, choose File → Get Info and tick Locked so Mail does not overwrite it.
- Reopen Mail. Your HTML signature appears in the Signatures window.
Every SignTry signature has an HTML code button for exactly this. Learn more about HTML email signatures.

Writing a signature by hand in a settings box is fiddly: no photo cropping, no layout, and it looks different in every app. With SignTry's free email signature generator you pick a template, fill in your details, click Copy and paste it into the signature box above.
